Counselling for

Anxiety

What is anxiety?

General Anxiety Disorder is a common disorder, it is defined as excessive worry about about events. It is the body’s natural response to danger. We all worry from time to time and normal worry is vital for problem solving, however anxiety disorders can be explained as persistent natural responses that interfere with daily life, resulting in distress and lack of functioning. Anxiety can occur with other problems such as substance misuse and depression.

Symptoms of anxiety

Some of the symptoms include:

  • Worrying something bad is going to happen
  • Irritability
  • Headaches
  • Sleep problems
  • Stomach problems
  • Feeling sick
  • Thinking about problems before they have happened

How counselling can help?

Talking about what you are going through can help you understand the reasons for feeling the way you do. Counselling can help you explore triggers and any unhelpful thinking patterns and behaviours. The use of grounding techniques can also be helpful when managing symptoms.
